SUN SENSE FOR SUMMER

With Summer around the corner don't forget to brush up on some sun sense......

Although most of us love when our skin has a tan or a glow, it isn't necessarily the best for our skin.  When you are outside you need protection from UVB and UVA rays. UVA-the most damaging, leading to premature aging ( oh no!!) UVB-which cause sunburn (ouch!).

Even though many foundations contain sunscreen, it isn't sufficient enough to protect the skin for extended periods out in the sun.  Even when it's cloudy, 80% of the sun's UV rays break through.  So even if you work at a desk all day, you should have SPF in your skincare regime.

At least a SPF 15 should be used everyday.  A sun protection factor (SPF) 15 is minimum for the face, neck and decolletage but I would recommend a SPF 25 or 30.  SPF 15 means your skin can be in sunlight 15 times its normal limit.

Even for your lips I would advise a lip balm with SPF because many sunblocks for your lips contain zinc and petroleum which can be drying. And who wants dry cracked lips?

In the summer weather heavy foundation is a mistake because they slide and crease.  So, if you use liquid foundation use it only where needed.  But, summer calls for a sheer, natural finish so try tinted moisturizers, BB & CC Creams, and mineral foundation.
